Planning a wedding means thinking about a thousand different details. In the middle of it all, it’s completely normal for a few things to slip through the cracks. Following my five tips every bride should read, here are seven often-overlooked details that can truly make a difference and bring your day even closer to perfection.
1. Have a « Plan B » in case of rain
Everyone dreams of perfect weather on their wedding day, but Mother Nature sometimes has other plans. Preparing a Plan B well in advance will help you avoid last-minute stress if it rains. For outdoor weddings, a tent is often used for the reception, but it can also be a beautiful way to keep your ceremony outside despite the weather.
For family and couple portraits, having enough umbrellas for everyone is a great idea. Unless there’s a severe storm, we can usually step outside for a few minutes. Clear umbrellas are the best option, as they allow light to pass through and photograph beautifully.
2. Consider the temperature
Just like rain, temperature can be unpredictable. During summer, offering water bottles and a refill station is always appreciated, especially during heat waves. The last thing anyone wants is a guest feeling unwell during the ceremony. In the fall, you might consider preparing a basket of blankets. Whether during the ceremony or later in the evening, it helps guests stay warm and comfortable.
3. Don’t forget the groom’s hands
Brides are often pampered from head to toe on the wedding day, while grooms tend to keep things simpler, especially when it comes to their hands. If he works with his hands or has rough or damaged nails, booking a manicure a few days before the wedding is a great idea. Hands appear in many photos, often in close-up, so it’s a small detail that makes a big difference.
4. Variable-tint lenses
If you or someone in your wedding party wears variable-tint lenses (often called Transition lenses), it’s best to switch to regular glasses or contact lenses for the day. Since these lenses react to UV light and darken outdoors, they can hide your eyes in photos, which would be a shame.
5. Activities for children
If children are part of your wedding, it’s important to keep them entertained throughout the day. Activities planned for adults don’t always hold their attention. Some couples choose to hire a childcare provider to supervise them. You can also prepare small surprise bags or organize team games. It keeps the children happy and allows their parents to fully enjoy the celebration.
6. Meals for your vendors
Your wedding vendors spend most of the day on their feet and often work late into the evening. When planning your meal count, don’t forget to include them and assign them a place to sit. It allows them to recharge and continue offering their best throughout the day. Trust me, it makes a difference!
7. Communication
Last but not least: communication. It’s one of the most important elements, yet it’s often overlooked.
Make sure everyone involved knows where they need to be and when. Whether it’s for getting ready, the ceremony, portraits, cocktail hour or the reception, each person plays an important role. You can share a simple digital schedule that they can keep on their phone. When everyone is on the same page, the day flows more smoothly and feels much more enjoyable for everyone.
